Summary

Prepare the 7.3.0 release in one PR: this combines what #1896 (changelog section) and #1898 (version bump and date) did for 7.2.0. Tag main with 7.3.0 immediately after this merges.

 setup.py
-MINOR = 2
+MINOR = 3
  IS_RELEASED = True        (unchanged)

 CHANGES.rst
+Release 7.3.0 (Released: 2026-10-27)
+ Fixes: #1902
+ Build: #1908

Coverage against git log 7.2.0..main:

PR
cited #1902, #1908
omitted #1903, #1904, #1906: dependabot action bumps, left out as in 7.1.0 and 7.2.0

Contributors: Mark Dickinson and Kayvan Zahiri, listed alphabetically by surname, with bots excluded. Open question: should MUGUNDAN (@MugundanMCW) be listed too? Their #1907 started the ARM work and was superseded by #1908, but none of its code was merged.

The release date assumes the PR merges and the release is tagged today. Update it if not.

Evidence

  • Before: python setup.py --version → 7.2.0
    After: python setup.py --version → 7.3.0
  • python -m flake8: clean.
  • cd docs && python -m sphinx -b html -W source build succeeds. The changelog page is titled "Traits CHANGELOG — Traits 7.3 Documentation" and shows Released: 2026-10-27.

Merge Danger

Door: two-way

Nothing is published until the tag and GitHub release are made, and the PR can be reverted before then.

Blast Radius: release metadata

From merge onward, builds from main report version 7.3.0.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Add a Release 7.3.0 section to CHANGES.rst covering everything merged
since 7.2.0, and bump MINOR in setup.py from 2 to 3.
