Summary

Move the build backend requirement to the uv_build 0.13 series. This replaces #674, which widened the requirement to span 0.12 and 0.13; this keeps it to a single minor version.

 [build-system]
-requires = ['uv_build>=0.12.2,<0.13']
+requires = ['uv_build>=0.13.5,<0.14']

Evidence

Built the sdist and wheel with uv build --build-constraint forcing each backend version, then compared listings and extracted contents:

  • Before (uv_build 0.12.24): baseline
    After (uv_build 0.13.5): identical file listings for both sdist and wheel. The only content differences are the pin itself (in the sdist's pyproject.toml and pyproject.toml.orig) and the wheel's Generator line, with its RECORD hash.

Merge Danger

Door: two-way

Blast Radius: packaging

Building from the sdist with pip, build or another PEP 517 frontend now needs uv_build 0.13.5 or later from the 0.13 series. uv build is less affected: it uses the backend bundled in uv itself whenever the pin allows a version that uv considers compatible.

Move the build backend requirement from >=0.12.2,<0.13 to
>=0.13.5,<0.14, keeping it to a single minor version rather than
widening it to span both. The sdist and wheel built with uv_build
0.13.5 have the same file listings and contents as those built with
0.12.24, apart from the pin itself and the wheel's Generator line.
