[docs-noob-tester] 📚 Documentation Noob Test Report - 2026-10-16

[github-actions[bot]]

Labels requested: documentation, user-experience, automated-testing (tool does not accept labels).

Summary

• Date: 2026-10-16
• Pages: /gh-aw/, /gh-aw/setup/quick-start/, /gh-aw/setup/cli/
• Impression: The Quick Start is short and well-structured, but a true beginner hits unexplained jargon and has no visible troubleshooting help. I checked rendering and page text only; I did not run the CLI steps.

Critical Issues Found

• None blocking. All 3 pages loaded with no console errors (only WebGL perf warnings on home).

Confusing Areas

• Prerequisites require an AI account but do not say which to pick or which is free for a first run.
• "lock file", "engine", "compile" appear without glossary links at first use.
• No example of fixing gh auth scope failures.
• Intro says "maintainer" while prerequisites say write access.
• CLI page is extremely long (~5 MB full-page screenshot); no "top commands" section up front.
• WSL is mentioned for Windows without a link.

What Worked Well

• Time estimate, numbered steps, and a video.
• One copy-paste install command and a guided gh aw add-wizard.
• Clear expected result (Daily Repo Report issue).

Recommendations

1. Quick wins: engine-choice note, WSL link, troubleshooting box (auth, Actions disabled, missing secret).
2. Cheat sheet of common commands at top of the CLI page.
3. Longer term: beginner glossary and a "what just happened" explainer.
